Is this little guy our new best friend?

Emma, who is really a girl :)
When I was little young(er), a family up the street from us wanted to get rid of their dog. Apparently the dog had...issues. Always up for a challenge, my mom decided now was the time to get a dog. Hours later, a small, fat wiener dog arrived at our home. My dad, having not grown up with a dog, was less than thrilled. Not only had he never wanted a dog, he was now stuck with a sausage with...issues. The poor little thing was not very bright, but made up for what it lacked in brains with it's cute little sausage body and stubby little legs that could barely waddle along. It was, in fact, endearing. The little wiener dog, Sunny, was here to stay.

What was not endearing, however, were the certain issues that came with the little thing. Coming home one day, we found that the new dog had peed in the house. Around the Christmas tree. In a circle. About five times. Now, everything I've read says, "If the dog pees in the house, it's your own damn fault." But, clearly everyone (my dad) decided it was the wiener's fault.

We left on vacation to Hawaii and that's when the mischief started. My dad devised a plan. Working in cahoots with my neighbor and OWN GRANDMOTHER, the wiener dog was taken away while we were out of town. Upon our return, my dad put up the garage where the wiener lived and shouted, "It's a SUNNY DAY!" Poor Sunny was no where to be found. She was taken away to a strange man with the name of Beefsteak and never had a chance. I was so upset, I drew a modern art piece depicting a Giant Hand Stealing the Dog in a sea of blue tears and emotion.

Fast forward. Bear and I are looking at the cute and little girl above tomorrow morning.

Maybe she'll be my new island friend!?

Just signed up for this:

Creative Nonfiction I

LLWRC 760
Explore this multi-faceted and popular genre, which ranges in scope from literary journalism to personal narrative and memoir, in this interactive 6-week course. Through sample readings, discussion, in-class writing exercises, and writing assignments, we will learn to use the narrative devices--narrator stances, characterization, verb tenses, dialogue, and scene and setting--that make this form of prose especially fascinating and appealing. Open to writers of all levels of experience who are confident with basic sentence structure and composition.

So I can do this:

Arts Journalism

Traditionally arts journalists have started out either as artists who learned to write or as writers who became passionately interested in writing about an art form. The Goldring Arts Journalism Program has been created to meet the varying needs of arts journalists by offering a uniquely flexible combination of courses to meet the educational objectives of each student, while offering them the latest training in multi-media communications.

Students arrive with specialized expertise or declared interest in an area of arts or culture—architecture, film, music, popular culture, television, theater or visual arts. They may also pursue a track of general arts editing. Students take graduate-level courses that deepen specialized knowledge in combination with journalism courses will sharpen writing, reporting, research, and multi-media skills.

And spend all my time here:

And see a whole lot more of this:

Not looking forward so much to snow, but if it means I get to write about something I love, I'll take it! Here's to hoping I get in...and hoping I don't freeze my a off.

Be careful out there Bear.  Fight back with a vengeance.  Maybe Hurricane Earl will delay the start of your school...looks like we're both bound for bad weather.

Keeping Away Vampires

The Farmer's Market in Pioneer Park is a good place for fresh ingredients.  I bought a big ole' bag of basil to make pesto and bruschetta with.  Thanks Kenz for going with me.

Whew.  Five cloves of garlic later...I'm scaring away Team Edward and Team Jacob.  The pesto was absolutely delicious though.  Loved it.  Fresh basil and fresh tomatoes really make all the difference.  It's great to cook something new.  I haven't cooked anything since Angry Pasta.  Good thing Bear is living it up on the island with his family.  Hope they have a great time.  I'm sending sunshine your way guys.  The food is fantastic.

Pesto Like An Italian Gramma

It's called Bruschetta...that's BRU-SKET-A

One day, I will become a fabulous chef.   I tend to use one really, really strong flavor.  Almost like a pop of color.  Let's drool over fabulous kitchens for my future chef self.  Loving those pops of color:
